In memory of suffragette Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir and the one hundred year anniversary of the founding of the Icelandic Women’s Rights Association in 1907. The work is located in the street Þingholtsstræti, where Bríet lived most of his life and where the first meeting of the Icelandic Women’s Rights Association was held.

The work contains a verse written by Bríet herself. She wrote it for her daughter Laufey Valdimarsdóttir. In the verse, the mother encourages her daughter to travel, get an education and take charge of her own life. An encouragement that applies to all girls at all times.

Step up my bold girl, and direct your flying carpet
Across the space, over the seas
The whole world explore at ease

The work is envisioned as a kind of Forum Romanum where people can gather together to exchange opinions or have a good time with themselves.

Til minningar um Bríeti Bjarnhéðinsdóttur og 100 ára afmælis Kvenréttindafélags Íslands. Verkið er staðsett í Þingholtsstræti þar sem Brét bjó lengst af og þar sem stofnfundur Kvenréttindafélags Íslands var haldinn 1907.
Í verkinu er skrifuð með rithönd Bríetar sjálfrar vísukorn sem hún orti til dóttur sinnar Laufeyjar Valdimarsdóttur. Í vísunni hvetur móðir dóttur til að ferðast, mennta sig og stýra eigin lífi. Hvatning til allra stúlkna á öllum tímum.

Stígðu ófeimin stúlka upp og stýrðu klæði,
yfir geiminn, yfir græði, allan heiminn skoði í næði.

Verkið er hugsað sem eins konar forum romanum þar sem fólk getur komið saman til að skipst á skoðunum eða átt góða stund með sjálfum sér.
