Leadersheep is an Icelandic sheep race which possesses intelligence unknown in any other sheep in the world. The legendary explanation to its origin can be traced to a single ram deriving from the hidden people, which got mixed with normal ewe, sometime in the far past.
Leadersheep’s nature is to lead the herd and it has a supernatural ability to foresee weather anomaly, which was invaluable in the pasture farming in the harsh Icelandic winters. It’s ability to pilot the sheep flock through stormy weather, darkness, and snowy blizzard, to the safety of the home, saved lives.
Today the leadersheep stock only counts about 1400 sheep.
Uppruna forystufés má rekja til þingeysks hulduhrúts sem blandaðist venjulegu sauðfé í öndverðu. Féð býr yfir eiginleikum og gáfum sem eru óþekktar í nokkru öðru sauðfjárkyni í víðri veröld.
Eðli forystufés er að leiða fjárhópinn eins og nafnið bendir til. Það sér fyrir um veður og er ratvísi þess óbrigðul, eiginleikar sem voru ómetanlegir við vetrarbeit á árum áður.
